Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) is a type of polyethylene modified by a process that creates covalent bonds between the polymer chains. This increases the material’s strength, flexibility, and resistance to temperature and chemicals compared to standard polyethylene.
PEX is popular in plumbing applications due to its unique properties. Its flexibility simplifies installation, eliminating the need for sharp bends or rigid connections. However, PEX can be susceptible to UV degradation if exposed to direct sunlight.
